This weekend Eric and I drove to St Louis to watch our two oldest boys perform with our high school's marching band. Cameron is a sophomore and was dx'd with asperger's syndrome at age 8. His coordination was not great and noises really bothered him. He did theraputic listening with an immensley talented speech therapist locally and had alot of OT type sensory stuff- in 6th grade he discovered band and developed a 'special interest' in musical instruments. Yesterday he marched in an incredibly complex show in front of thousands of people in the Dome in St Louis as part of Bands of America. As his mom, who has watched (and continues to watch) all the struggles, I cannot watch him perform without tears in my eyes- tears of appreciation for all those who have had a part in his life and tears for how hard he has worked to accomplish this talent.
