This isn't a book, but well worth mentioning. My absolute favorite has to be Difficult Moments by Dr. Brenda Smith Myles. In it she outlines and explains each phase of the Rage Cycle: Rumble, Rage and Recovery. She provides clear information on what individuals on the spectrum may look like when they are "rumbling" (perhaps about to have a meltdown) and provides intervention and support ideas, and so on through rage and recovery. I am particularly moved by the compassionate tone she has when speaking about individuals on the spectrum. I have purchased at least 10 copies of this DVD since it came out and often use it for school staff trainings, among other things. It is only about 25 minutes in length, which makes it particularly palatable for teachers who don't have time to read a lot of material. I would also recommend it for parents, for themselves and to share with relatives who think their child is just "throwing a fit". It's clear, concise and incredibly helpful. There is also a revised version of the book available, which has more detail and provides a wealth of ideas for our kids on the spectrum.

Kristi,
I finally got my hands on this dvd- and as soon as I loaned it to a teacher friend, I couldn't track it down again! It started making the rounds! So many kids, not even identified on the spectrum, follow the pattern talked about on this dvd- what a great resource!!
