Hello there,
My name is Janine I began my working life training as a general nurse, as part of my general training we were fortunate enough to have a brief spell at a psychiatric hospital.
I enjoyed this experience and went on after graduating from medical school to train as an sen(mh) which is a state enrolled nurse for the mentally handicapped. It was while going through this training I came across autism.
After graduation again, I moved on to working with children who had behavioral problems, lots more courses and training later I have arrived at what I do now. I work with various professional people as part of a team.
I mainly work with autistic children but do on occassions have dealings with other deficits on the spectrum.
I write a lot of social skill stories and was recently able as my technical ability with computers is quite limited to publish a short poem on the net, it is at
www.autismsocialstories.org.uk Anyway the reason I ended up here in your forum is simple, I have for some years now worked closely with various families who struggle to come to terms with an autistic diagnosis, and then once they have accepted and settled back to family life, find all the professionals conflict with ideas and help!
This is where I have found social stories have helped alot of families, for example recently I wrote a story for a very confused four year old on "all my helpers".
I am here to offer social stories, help and advice to your members
my main site can be viewed at
