I was looking at one of many bookshelves last night, and saw this old 'friend' -- this is another 'MUST READ' for parents, especially parents with kids who have a hard time negotiating social relationships.

It describes how elementary school kids make friendships and alliances -- written in an easy-to-read tone, it describes the fascinating interplay of kids -- for example, when a boy is trying to join in a game, he needs to sit and watch the game for awhile, and then ask to join in and play on the LOSING side -- they he'll be accepted in. Girls on the other hand need to seek out the person who's toy is being used (jump rope, whatever) and ask HER if she may play.

Most kids pick this up 'automagically' -- our kids need to be taught. If you don't understand the 'rules' (I sure didn't!) you can't help your child.

Excellent, fascinating book!
